(By special envoy). On the banks of the Paraguay River and in the presence of the President of the Republic; Horacio Cartes who opened the first private port, Caacupemí-Pilar. This port will offer services of loading and unloading of vehicles, containers and general loads of import and export. It will also have closed warehouses for consolidated cargo storage and will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
Fernando Leri Frizza, president of the company, explained that this port has the particularity of being able to take care of deep-sea vessels that do not have possibilities to arrive to Asunción. He explained that this is the last port in the country where large vessels can arrive with a full cargo and therefore, its location is strategic for logistics in the region and the country.
The port is set up on a fifty-hectare site which required an initial investment of $ 8 million. It intends to operate 365 days a year even if the levels of navigability are complicated because of the downstream of the river.
Leri Frizza indicated that the objective of Puerto Caacupemí-Pilar is to be the main regional distribution centre for the commercialization and redistribution of cargo, which will mean an unbeatable business opportunity for the nation. He also stressed the Government’s effort made in previous months to make the rivers navigable and asked for continuous determination because that will enable development for the country.
He said that they trusted and gave their full support to the administration of President Cartes and even made themselves available to support and develop work for that area.
